Into the Heart of Darkness - Mythras first session

Into the Heart of Darkness - Mythras first session

Today we played for the first time with Mythras rules and with combat cards. Also used the encumbrance calculator to get the players encumbrance under control :-)

The new spirit combat use came into really good action - a spirit attacked the players who were trying to pry some jewels off a throne at arena. The first player used spirit shield so the second one was attacked instead. Spirit was a strong one and player lost quickly in the fight all the magic points and was possessed. He started shooting the others with his bow while they were quickstepping away from him - player who had been earlier quite conservative in using special effects happily used the combat cards to find the new ranged effect rules - trying to drop his foe. Others started to shoot the possessed player from distance with ranged weapons and were trying to drop him and use the new ranged weapon special effects. They managed to use drop foe on him - spirit dispossessed the downed player and attacked one of the other ones - who protected himself with spirit shield. A lively spirit combat ensued with spirit shield going up and down, spirit combat special effects used while the player retreated slowly step by step towards escape route. Luck points were being spent as well. He managed to get away with very few magic points while others were escaping with carrying the body of the dropped player. Spirit combat was exciting, tense and varied - much more so than any other time so far. Lots of combat special effects were considered by even players who had not considered them so much earlier. So a combination of spirit and real combat was good fun and lots of tactics were used. First thing after the session the player worst hit by the spirit said that once he finds a teacher he needs to learn first the spirit shield and then repair spell.

Awesome! How did it go with the combat cards specifically? I loved the way the encounter with that spirit went down, and I think it's very cool that a material body was possessed so that the spirit could wreak more havoc. I think this counts as a sample combat, would you mind if I put some of your account in that thread too hkokko?
Dithering will only serve to waste your Action Points...

Now that sounds like great fun for the GM, not so much for the players who wonder what next.
Thanks for sharing
