How would one attune crystals?

How would one attune crystals?

Power never goes up anymore, so losing it to attune a crystal per the old rules is a steeper cost. I was wondering if that's how it is still done? Or is some other means of attuning a crystal envisioned for a Gloranthan setting?

What do you mean by the "old rules"?

We have been using an easier version of the rules provided in MRQII Arms and Equipment. This is how it's described there: First make a roll of Hard Insight or Normal Meditation to get into the right mindset. If successful, make a Hard Willpower. If successful, congrats, you are attuned. If the Willpower roll failed, you can't try to attune this crystal again. Fumble -> Lose 1 POW.

I changed the main skill from Willpower to Insight (no roll needed to "get in the right mood"), and allowed retries every season. In other words: Roll Hard Insight. Success - Congrats; Fail - Try again next season; Fumble - Lose one POW, no retries.

In Chaosium RQ 2/3 you attuned a crystal by permanently sacrificing characteristic POW, in the same way that you sacrificed POW permanently to gain Rune Magic. But then gaining characteristic POW was easier back then.
