A.D. 500 by Simon Young is an imaginative travelogue through Britain in the year 500 from the point of view of a Byzantine courier.
There are many books on Dark Ages Britain, including:
Arthur's Britain by Leslie Alcock
Age of Arthur by John Morris - somewhat old now, but was the magisterial work for a long time
The Celts by Nora Chadwick
